Information on how to get to the John McIntyre Conference Centre can be found on the Edinburgh First website.
Early registration is open on Tuesday 27 August from 15:30 at JMCC. The conference registration desk will be open at JMCC at the following times:
- Tuesday 27 August, 15:30–19:00
- Wednesday 28 August, 08:00–18:00
- Thursday 29 August, 08:00–17:30
- Friday 30 August, 08:30–16:30
The conference sessions will be held in the following buildings at Pollock Halls:
- John McIntyre Conference Centre (JMCC): Pentland Suite and Prestonfield Suite
- South Hall: Main Hall and Kirkland Suite
- St Leonard’s Hall: St Trinnean Room

Printed copies of presentation slides will not be provided, so please bring a laptop or tablet with you if you wish to annotate. Presentation slides will be available on the conference website and app.
Hard copies of papers or delegate lists will not be provided at the conference. Delegate lists can be found on the conference app. Papers can be found on both the app and website.
An early networking reception will take place on Tuesday 27 August, 17:30–19:00 at JMCC.
A welcome reception for all participants will take place on Wednesday 28 August, 18:30–20:00 at Playfair Library Hall, Old College.
The gala dinner will take place on Thursday 29 August, 19:00 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. Please bring your gala dinner ticket with you – this will be included in your delegate pack which you will receive when you register. Coaches will transfer guests to the dinner venue leaving from Pollock Halls Main Reception promptly at 18:30. Delegates staying elsewhere should make their own way to the venue.
Please note: There will be no return transport after dinner.
The dress code for dinner is smart-casual.
JMCC will host a number of exhibitors at the conference. You are welcome to visit the exhibition area at any time during the programme.
We strongly recommend public transport where possible. There is very limited parking available at the conference centre. If you require disability or special access parking, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is a taxi rank outside Pollock Halls Main Reception and there is a taxi freephone inside the reception where you can call a taxi if required.
Information for Guests Staying at Pollock Halls of Residence
Guests can check in and collect room keys from main reception between 14:00–23:00 on their day of arrival. Keys must be returned to the main reception by 10:30 on the morning of departure. Anyone anticipating arriving after 23:00 should let the reception know in advance on +44 (0)131 651 2001.
A self-service breakfast is included in all Pollock Halls accommodation bookings. Breakfast will be held in the ground floor restaurant of the JMCC from 07:30–10:00.
Any accommodation bookings within Salisbury Green Hotel and Bistro will have breakfast served at the hotel.
If you have booked ‘ensuite campus accommodation’ you will be staying in Chancellor’s Court.
If you have booked ‘ensuite hotel accommodation’ you will be staying in the Salisbury Green Hotel and Bistro.
Laundry facilities are available on-site. The machines can be used with either purchase of a laundry card at reception, or by downloading the free app. Further information is available at reception.
On Friday 30 August, luggage may be stored in the Salisbury Room at the conference venue (JMCC). This can only be done after bedroom keys have been handed back to the Pollock Halls Main Reception.
Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available on campus at the conference venue and campus accommodation. Search for ‘OPTIFY’ and follow prompts.
A few points to note when connecting to the Wi-Fi:
- Ensure you enter a valid phone number and email address
- Avoid using any spaces or non-numerical characters, such as ‘+’
- The Optify wireless network is a shared unencrypted network. Some phones may display a security prompt; please note this needs to be bypassed before connecting to the network
Alternatively, the eduroam network is available throughout the campus. This is the international roaming service which provides academics with easy and secure network access when visiting an institution other than their own.
Coffee and Lunch Breaks
Coffee breaks will be served in JMCC, South Hall and St Leonard’s Hall during the conference.
A three-course self-service lunch with soft drinks and tea/coffee will be available in the JMCC Restaurant (ground floor) from 12:30–14:00 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please ensure you wear your conference badge.
If you have a particular dietary request and you have advised us of this in advance, please make yourself known to staff in the service area.
There are no printing facilities available at the conference, however, there are a number of local printing shops nearby:
